I understand that everybody who reads your letter will be screaming “leave now!” and of course they are right – but it’s not as simple as that. You must be ready to leave and strong enough to stay away. If you walk off with your baby this man will do everything in his power to get you back and unless you have the support and deep resolve you need you will return and the situation will be much worse. There are people you can turn to for help and who will listen to you and believe you. Everyone nowadays understands that mental abuse can be just as damaging as physical. Look online for organisations or ask at your GP surgery. I’m sure you love your unborn child and you must stay safe for it. Choosing between no father and an abusive one isn’t an option. Love support and a sense of family can be provided in many ways but abuse is never one of them. The road ahead is going to be hard but I don’t see that you have a choice. Imagine your child looking you in the eye after they have been beaten and then try to explain why you stayed. Be strong.
